African Batik Green Fringe Mud Gold White Elephant Turtle Fish Tribal Design 34" W X 54" L
Handmade in Zimbabwe using traditional natural dyes and fabrics bringing together elements of the earth, elephant, fish, turtle floral and abstract tribal designs. Colors of rich greens, mud brown, white and splashes of gold make this a one-of-a- kind vintage batik.
This woven textile is fringed at both the top and bottom. It is thick and 100% cotton.
The symbols and images throughout the traditional Zimbabwe Batik, show the individual artist's perception of art and their environment.
As this textile is handmade by a family in Zimbabwe, and not in a factory there are slight splotches of paint, some uneven lines and other signs of original, naturally made art.
What makes the batiks in this shop unique is that they are one of a kind and totally the vision of the artist. There may be a similar one but no two are alike.
These Batiks from Zimbabwe are 100% cotton with the lighter texture being called Sheeting and the firmer, thicker texture called Back-weave. This Batik is Back-weave. The closest fabric Back-weave can be compared to is Mud Cloth, although the Zimbabwe Back-weave fabric is one piece rather than strips and it is a lighter more refined texture, although thicker than Sheeting.
This African Batik looks great as a wall hanging, framed art, a tapestry, tablecloth or any interesting use you may have for it.
