African Copper Art Tribal Women Braiding Hair Nurturing Child - Congo - 15.5" X 23.5"
This beautiful realistic work of art copper relief, is handcrafted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), where copper is abundant. It depicts a part of daily life with a mother's hair being braided while still nurturing her child.
Large sheets of copper are flattened so that the artist has a base to draw the image on; the copper images are then hammered until the art is clear and complete, The sheets of copper have scratches and/or indentations which the artist works around and it becomes a part of the art.
Each artist shows an aspect of daily life in the Congo that is important to the artist. There are many fine artists in the Congo, and you can find all levels of talent and I searched until an artist's work moved me and showed the fine detail that you see in the art shown here.
These 3 dimensional copper works of art can be framed or placed on an easel.
The last photo in this listing shows framed copper art as an example only.
