African Art Painting Dunoon DuNoon Informal Settlement in South Africa Original Painting 46.5"W X 36"H X 1.5"D

$ 3,200.00

African Painting Original Art depicting the Dundoon/DuNoon, Informal Settlement in South Africa. This oil on canvas painting has been stretched and framed.

The artist, originally from the Congo D.R.C., has lived in South Africa for many years, and his familiarity with the life of being a transnational gives him a unique perspective on the lives of African migrants in South Africa. His knowledge and technical skills, enhance his ability to capture a frozen in time look at the Informal Settlement of DuNoon, which is populated by migrants, who can be treated very differently. I met him on an early trip to South Africa, and was moved to purchase many of his works of art. I've noticed that his time in South Africa, has changed his art considerably, from some of his earlier works.

Explanation of Informal Settlement

Du Noon is what South Africans call an "informal settlement" or a "previously disadvantaged area" or a "township". It's situated to the east of Table View, and north of Killarney Gardens. The people who live in Du Noon are very poor and many live in "wendy houses" in the back-yard garden of brick houses. Unemployment levels are high, with many of those who are being employed being domestic workers in the nearby affluent areas.
