African Zulu Rare 3 Bowl Meat Platter Wood Carved - South Africa
Traditional Wood Carved Zulu Ugqoko Triple Bowl Meat Platter with smaller center bowl for relish, salt or gravy to dip the maize-meal ball into the juices. This 1950s Ugqoko platter was handcrafted in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa; each meat platter is unique to an area or to a family's unique design.
The rich patina on the bottom and handles of the platter are obtained by the constant saturation of fat when roasting meat. The bowls have the marks of scraping, cutting and serving the meat.
This tribal meat platter is used to carry, cook and serve meat, especially during rituals and ceremonial feasts.
