African Sukus Helmet Mask Congo DRC
Rare and unique Antique Wood Carved Mask with wild bird feathers on top held by cowrie shells and beads with colors of red from pounding wild fruit placed on the rounded forehead just above the rounded eyebrows. Large protruding eyes represent the ancestors with the block nose hovering between the eyes and pointing down to a small closed plug mouth, denoting the ancestors watching over you in silence. The lower part of the face is accented by painted tribal designs and closed with cowrie shell chin and raffia bearded face. These masks are danced and worn at special ceremonies and rituals.
