African Okou Stool Royal Prestige Ceremonial Handcrafted Cameroon
This special Vintage Okou Stool was hand carved by a tribal Okou artist in Cameroon. Symbols of double connected drinking vessels show this prestige stool was made for a royal wedding ceremony representing the two separate vessels becoming united through this ceremony. The thick columnar legs hold up the strong seat with detailed carvings of elephants and bongo antelopes merging to symbolically hold up the royal person on the seat who is uniting to hold up the people.
The power and position of chiefs and kings were often exhibited in the quality of their prestige items, such as this stool, during special ceremonial events.
