African Zulu Meat Platter Wood Carved Leather Strap - South Africa
Traditional Wood Carved Zulu Ugqoko Meat Platter. Hand crafted in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa in the 1950, each meat platter is unique to an area or family. A strong, leather strap is placed on one handle so that this platter can be conveniently hung for easy access.
The rich patina on the bottom and handles of the platter are obtained by the constant saturation of fat for roasting meat. The top, which holds the meat always has cutting or scraping marks from the cutting.
This tribal meat platter is used to carry, cook and serve meat, especially during rituals and ceremonial feasts. There is still a very smoky smell on the wood.
